Leatherat: The Future

...it's bright!

What a funny year 2012 has been for us Leatheraters. We spent the first few months of the year writing and recording material for our latest album “Uprising”. During the time spent recording, we saw heavy snow which threatened to disrupt our schedule; and beautiful hot sunshine which threatened to disrupt our schedule (the beer-garden at the Bell in Adderbury is a wonderful place to stop for the afternoon in good weather!)

Shortly after the album launched in May, we announced that this summer season would mark the end of an era for Leatherat drummer Hugh Edwards, who has taken the decision to move onto musical pastures new… we wish him all the best and I’m sure you will all follow his progress via facebook/twitter and wotnot.

The Weyfest crowd were treated to Hugh’s very last Leatherat appearance! All be it… with one man down. Jono couldn’t be there for Weyfest, owing to the birth of his new baby boy “Sonny” [sorry folks... I wanted to be there ;o) ]. Add to that of course, you will have heard by now that Mr. Jim Bennion has also retired from Leatherat after a fantastic stint that included the recording of “Short Time on Earth” and not forgetting our triumphant appearance at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention back in 2010. Jim will be missed by all of us in the band and again, we know you guys will miss him too. It’s been an honour for us to play together! You can witness Jim’s final Leatherat gig on Sunday October 14th – Banbury Folk Festival.

We’re all really positive about the future for Leatherat. We’re writing new material and rehearsing with our newest member Lee Smith on drums. Lee will make his debut appearance with the ‘ats at the “Bearded Theory End of Season Ball” on Saturday October 13th in Derby. It promises to be a cracking night not to be missed.

We will be making further announcements soon regarding auditions for a Guitarist! …Time to dust off your axes folks  8-)
