Stuff you never knew.....

Leatherat have played to over 150,000 people during the course of their existence; in more than 300 venues, festivals, clubs and pubs. They are well recognised on the touring festival circuit.

Formed in 2004, the lineup originally featured Kevin West, Tim Durham and Richard Reece. Richard was surpassed by Hugh Edwards for the first album “Temporary Immortality”. Kev & Tim paved the way for shredder Bret Nichols on the second album “Garden of Eden”. Bret moved on and Jim Bennion joined us to record and tour our third album “Short Time on Earth”.

In 2012, shortly after releasing the fourth album “Uprising”, Hugh & Jim handed in their resignations and Leatherat went about re-building the band. Lee Smith jumped aboard the good ship Leatherat as our new drum-meister and some weeks later, James Foley made us 5 once again bringing with him a ruck of guitar skills.

Noted guest musicians on Leatherat albums have been Ric Sanders and Chris Leslie (Fairport Convention), Tom Leary (Feast of Fiddles), PJ Wright & Gareth Turner (Little Jonny England) & many more.

Leatherat supported Status Quo at the Cropredy festival, 2010. The very next day, rumours circulated the 20,000 strong crowd that Leatherat had broken onto the Quo tour bus, smashed it up (in a rock and roll frenzy) and stolen all the Quo’s beer….. Fact or fiction?! ….You decide!

A: Fiction.

Leatherat have shared stages with highly acclaimed acts including Levellers, Hawkwind (Space Ritual), Fairport Convention, Status Quo, Jethro Tull, 3 Daft Monkeys, Seth Lakeman, Newton Faulkner, Steve Harley, Scouting For Girls, and  The Christians.

Influences of the band are Levellers, Fairport Convention, Hawkwind and Wolfstone to name but a very small few!
